29 August 2004 Rebbie in the subway station, waiting to go to the big march
DSC01579.JPG
29 August 2004 The UFPJ March was huge.
DSC01580.JPG
29 August 2004 The police were along some side streets but not others. There were many of them. These are bike cops. But there were also scooter cops.
DSC01581.JPG
29 August 2004 Some of the protesters were carrying pictures of family members killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. This mean's sign says, "Bush lied. My son died."
DSC01582.JPG
29 August 2004 UFPJ estimated the number of people lined up, waiting to march at 400,000. That wouldn't count me,as I came into the middle of the march. And it wouldn't count the many "feeder marches" of affiliate groups marching through town to some part of the main march route and joining in. All I can say is that it was the largest protest action I've ever been a part of and the largest march in NYC in more than 20 years.

29 August 2004 Marchers all around. Rebbie was smart and brought a parasol.

29 August 2004 9/11 Victims families were present. "Our Grief is not a Cry for War"
DSC01586.JPG
29 August 2004 The march was a little sparse where I was sitting. Turns out there was a big fire in front of Madison Square Garden and the bomb squad was called in, according to indymedia.

29 August 2004 Then a huge croud gathered with Billionares for Bush. They chanted "four more wars" and "reappoint bush" and "whose government? our govvernment! whose taxes? your taxes!"
DSC01589.JPG
29 August 2004 The billionartes were wearing nice hats like mine. If only my clothes had been nicer.
DSC01590.JPG
29 August 2004 A communist ground or clever counter-demonstartors got in a brief tussle with the billionares. If they weren't reall "commies fo kerry," it was brilliant street theater.
DSC01591.JPG
29 August 2004 The pink slip people joined in. the police eventually threatened them.
DSC01592.JPG
29 August 2004 Lady Liberty was blowing a conch shell. She was a sort of aquatic liberty.
DSC01593.JPG
29 August 2004 Rebbie's daughter will be named Ruby. She's already marching.
DSC01594.JPG
29 August 2004 Near the end of the march. Still thousands of people behind, waiting to pass Madison Square Gardens. Meaning all the folks we saw marching were form feeder marches and were uncounted. This guy's sign says "Bloomberg Must Go"
DSC01595.JPG
29 August 2004 That guy's T shirt says </bush> hehehehe.
