The pedestrian / tourist signs in Mechelen depicted not only the direction to the landmark, but also a historical event associated with it.
The right part of the sign points to the cathedral tower and depicts a story where somebody in the town awoke in the middle fo the night and saw it on fire and so sounded the alarm. Crews began dousing the tower, until the realized that what the person saw was actually the moon rising behind the tower.
