This Zwarte Piet was found lurking in a bag store. There are the legs of another Zwarte Piet in the upper left corner.
Not every place has Zwarte Piet figures, but those that do seem to feature him in greater numbers and more prominently than sinter Claus. He is clearly very popular, especially as a way to market to children.

Blokker has several large stickers in their window of a Zwarte Piet character. It appears to be a black woman who has darkened up her skin for the photo shoot. They also use this imagine in their print ads.
Zwarte Piet is supposed to be a child, so, like Peter Pan, he's often depicted by a woman. Some folks, not quite understanding why the images alarm Americans, explain the Zwarte Piet is not actually black, but rather has soot on him from going up and down chimneys. Maybe he has a special magic which keeps his clothes brights and turns his lips bright red?

The small, standing figures in the lower left of the picture are life-size mannequins. They are coal-black and wearing Zwarte Piet costumes and masks. Some of them are holding burlap sacks full of gifts.
