The shops in passages were built in the 19th century. This kind of shopping fell out of favor for a while, but has recently regained popularity.

The Galleries Lafayette are a department store which advertises using the symbol of a woman with a model of the Eifel Tower on her head. They have an xmas light display.

What better way to symbolize music than make a huge statue of angels playing instruments that don't exist anymore?

In the 19th century, naked people dancing around with tamborines is a celebration of the purity of the arts. In the 20th century, it's a bunch of hippies.

It's a hell of an opera building. There are busts of composers in all the cricles above the columns. The round things below the wide columns are reliefs of busts. The french don't discriminate. Europeans from many countries are represented.

The reason I have so many pictures of Nicole taking a picture is because we tend to take pictures of the same things and it takes me much less time. Then I have my camera out and I'm waiting, so I snap her photo. Her pictures come out better than mine.

Their lgihting was weird. Blue cars, red double-decker busses, pink tea pots, disco balls and the green tardis?? Maybe they're also excited that the new season of Dr Who is about to start up.

The red light district is right on the border of the 9th and the 18th (or is the 20th? where's my map?) but it's not really all that seedy. There are naughty shops, but I didn't see anybody who looked like they were working.

Snow in Paris
It didn't snow all that much and it's not really that cold out, so coverage inside the park is not heavy, and coverage outside the park is limited to cars.
